Overview

Jenjarom Fried Pastry & Bean Soups is a humble yet beloved spot nestled in the bustling neighborhood of Kampung Sungai Jarom, Selangor. This quaint corner lot stall embodies simplicity and mastery in its focused menu, primarily revolving around traditional fried pastries, known locally as Yao Char Kuey, and comforting bean soups. Despite its modest size, the eatery has carved a niche for itself among locals who crave authentic flavors with a distinctive twist.

The signature dish, the garlic-infused Yao Char Kuey, stands out as the heart of the experience here. Unlike typical versions, these fried pastries boast a crisp exterior that gives way to a tender, slightly chewy interior. The subtle but evident garlic flavor elevates this familiar street food, offering a sensorial punch that loyal patrons rave about. Diners are encouraged to savor the pastries fresh off the fryer, as their texture and flavor reach their peak within moments of serving.

Complementing the fried delights are the variety of bean soups—particularly the peanut and red bean options. These are crafted with care, striking a perfect balance of sweetness and richness without overpowering the palate. The peanut soup, noted for its supple peanuts that have been simmered to softness over time, offers warmth and comfort in every spoonful. Such traditional desserts provide a gentle counterpoint to the savory, garlicky snacks, completing a well-rounded culinary visit.

Located in a residential setting, the ambiance is casual and unpretentious, mirroring several local stalls where neighbors gather to enjoy quality handmade food. Parking can be limited in this compact area, reflecting the popularity of the venue, especially during peak hours. However, the option for takeaway ensures that even during busy times, guests can still bring home these flavorful treasures.

Jenjarom Fried Pastry & Bean Soups appeals to those who appreciate authentic street-style Malaysian fare with a garlic-forward note and a solid tradition of handmade cooking. It is a destination for food enthusiasts seeking an honest taste of local heritage through simple yet flavorful dishes. Whether for a quick snack or a satisfying teatime treat, this eatery delivers an experience rich in cultural flavor and textural contrast.

Located in a busy housing area, this corner lot house which is also a stall sells arguably the best fried pastry or Yao char kuey ever, they are indeed the specialist having only a couple of items in entire menu including dessert. Signature fried pastry is Yao char kuey which has robust garlic taste, cant get this anywhere else. Pastry is crunchy on the outside and still soft inside. Be sure to eat it on the spot. Parking spaces limited as there is only few spots right across the road but shouldn't be an issue in housing area.

Freshly made and fried Cakoi/YooTiau and Ham Chim Peng/Red Bean donuts. Donuts are unique in taste with a slight garlic flavor! Accompanied with Red Bean & Peanut dessert soups. Yummy teatime indeed. Place is hot! Parking is difficult. Could always takeaway though if place is crowded.

The 油条 You Zha Kueh is just rm1.30 per piece. I like the garlicky taste. They even cut it into small pieces for you and provide bamboo sticks. The peanut beans soup is also nice, not too sweet as I like, the peanuts are so soft, must have been cooked for long time.

It’s always worth the drive from KL to this place, their you tiao is super good, crunchy yet not too dense, fluffiness is just right. Flavourful - there’s a light garlic taste too it. Their red bean soup is yummy as well, the sweetness is just about right!
